The flora of the European Alps may be described under a wide range of aspects: binomial nomenclature, herbarium pictures, phenotypic traits, DNA sequences, distribution map and more. One of the main goal of the PhyloAlps project is to integrate these different kinds of data into a single knowledge base so as to provide the most complete and precise information.
Many existing databases already provide information about diverse aspects of the plant kingdom species. In order to benefit from these massive flows of information and promote data sharing, the PhyloAlps project intends to bridge the gap between different data sources accross the Web. The resulting unified dataset will be published in the Linked Open Data.
To feed and explore data about the European Alps flora, a Web User Interface is required. The features of the PhyloAlps Web UI will fit the specific needs of each kind of information: herbarium photo viewer, phenotypic traits tabular display, DNA sequences analysis tools, interactive distribution maps and more.
Different kinds of user need to access this multi-feature knowledge base: biocomputing scientists, environnemental scientists, taxonomy scientists and plant scientists. The services of the PhyloAlps project will adapt to these various user profiles in order to enrich the data from different of points of view.
